Gambling is one of the favorite pastimes in the United States, and indeed, it is spreading all over the world. From the Casinos of Monte Carlo to the Great monuments of Las Vegas, gambling is all the rage all over the world. However, in light of this phenomenon, there are a few questions that need to be asked. Why do people gamble? What impact does this craze have, if any, on our society and the way people live?
Firstly, there will always be people who say that gambling is wrong, and that it is in any case a sin, as forbidden in the bible. While this may be true, it may be asked whether it is applicable in a secular society such as ours. There are so many things that people take for granted, that are forbidden in religious circles. Such things are premarital sex, homosexuality and others. Gambling is just another of those things. While Las Vegas has a reputation for being "Sin City" it is not to be supposed that gambling has anything to do with it, and, if it has, the very way we think of "right" and "wrong" must undergo revision.
